The destruction from
Hurricane Ian
has displaced not only homeowners but also pets in
Florida
. On Wednesday, 120 animals were flown out of Naples, Florida by the BISSELL Pet Foundation.

The
Humane Society of Sarasota County
and Naples loaded cats and dogs onto a flight to New York. Many of the shelters that were hit during the hurricane could no longer care for the animals. The plane leaving Florida was headed to New York in order to place the homeless pets in shelters along the northeast and east coast.

The goal of the mission was to create space in the shelters that were impacted in Florida by the storm. Many of the animal shelters have run out of space due to families not being able to have the resources to take care of the animals.

Some shelters closed operations completely. No longer being able to provide adoption services for pets, however putting all their energies towards the new dogs that have been displaced. The pets that are being shipped all over the country have already been inside shelters before the Hurricane.

“Shelters are full across the country, and we are grateful for the organizations making room for Florida shelter pets during this difficult time,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of the BISSELL Pet Foundation.
